NLC Conducts Public Participation on Draft Recommendations on National Land Policy
The National Land Commission in conjunction with other development partners on Thursday 12th October 2023 conducted
a one-day public participation forum on Draft Recommendations towards the review of Sessional Paper No. 3 of 2009 on the
National Land Policy on Thursday October 12, 2023.
This is in line with its mandate ‘To recommend a National Land Policy to the national government’.
The Commission’s Chairperson Gershom Otachi says the recommendations have been prepared pursuant to Article 67 (2) (b) of the Constitution of Kenya that requires the Commission to recommend a national land policy to the national government.

‘Once more as a Commission I wish to appreciate your dedication on this process and assure participants both in this virtual session and the scheduled physical session on Thursday 12th October 2023 and any other subsequent engagements that your input, suggestions, recommendations are critical in informing the process. Equally noting that this is just part of a long process that will be undertaken by the Ministry in charge of Lands towards attainment of a revised National Land Policy.’ The Chair said.
On his part the commission’s CEO Kabale Tache said that the recommendations on the National Land Policy for Kenya seeks to guide the country towards efficient, sustainable and equitable use of land for prosperity and posterity.
‘The recommendations seek to define the key measures required to address the critical issues of land administration, access to land, land use planning, environmental emerging issues among others multiple challenges facing land sector, and aim at ensuring that all land is put into a sustainable productive use, as well as facilitating the implementation of key principles of land use including conservation.’ He said.
The Institute of Surveyors of Kenya ISK President who graced the event offered that there are still issues that need to be addressed in the Policy so as to align them with the constitution as ten years since it was reviewed is a long time.

The first National Land Policy was adopted in 2009 and it is now more than 10 years since then which necessitates a review. The Commission has now developed Draft Recommendations towards the Review of the Policy and which can be
