Daggers drawn as Vihiga Gubernatorial race gets tight
By Erick Ludeya
Sub tribe and clan politics are deepening and getting more hot in the 2027 gubernatorial race to succeed Vihiga Governor Wilberforce Otichilo.
The entrance of Makadara MP George Aladwa has complicated the political matrix as sub tribe wars between the Maragoli’s and the Nyores take shape.
So far,Aladwa seems to have altered the odds in his favour against Emuhaya MP Omboka Milemba.
Aladwa has made formidable inroads and strategically put in place a machinery that could help him rise to the top seat.
Omboko Milemba was deemed to be favourite but the fact that the current Governor is from his Nyore subtribe is working against his chances.
While Aladwa has promised to work with all the subtribes if he wins,a few people in the Nyore Sub tribe insist they should retain the seat.
The Maragoli’s and Tirikis are likely to rally behind Aladwa who will name a deputy from the Nyore community.
Aladwa is likely to vie on the ODM ticket while Omboko Milemba is expected to fly the ANC flag.
Dynamics for the seat changed when former governor Moses Akaranga endorsed Janet Ominde for the seat.
The withdrawal of Akaranga from the seat had been deemed helpful to George Aladwa.
