Raila: Tim Wanyonyi’s Resilience to earn him Nairobi Governor Seat
Erick Ludeya
Were it not for the confusion that reigned supreme within the top leadership of Azimio La Umoja coalition over the choice of the right candidate for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2022 Tim Wanyonyi would be the governor today.
This has been admitted by none other than ODM leader Raila Odinga himself and the good thing is that Mr Odinga has promised not to let Tim down come 2027.
So there is no iota of doubt that 2027 is going to be a grueling battle between Tim and Johnson Sakaja who hasn’t done much to prove he is any better than his predecessors.
What has kept Tim alive in the game is his resilience and commitment to service delivery at constituency level, his loyalty to his party ODM and most importantly his unmatched faith.
A battle between him and Sakaja is not going to give anyone sleepless nights because it’s easy to pick the winner. Its Tim Wanyonyi.
What Tim Wanyonyi’s candidature means for Raila Odinga
I remember covering his events prior to his official launch for the seat in 2022 where his popularity had swept across the capital city.
He was the first aspirant to launch his bid in a colorful ceremony held at the Kenyatta Convention Center( KICC).
His battle with former Kenya of Commerce and Industry president Richard Ngatia for the Azimio ticket was not a bed of roses.
Tim’s candidature triggered a lot of interest in ODM and Jubilee parties.
Just like now,he was riding on his splendid performance as Westlands MP where he has set high standards.
He remains a close friend to Raila Odinga’s family.I vividly remember Raila’s wife Mama Ida Odinga confirming this when he attended one of his event in Westlands.
Ida said Wanyonyi is an intelligent and experienced politician who is qualified to manage Nairobi.
He was once a councilor and an MP for three terms now.
One of the questions Mama Ida posed to your crowd was: “Do you want him to go with just that? If he has got a dream, let him dream and we can help him achieve it,” Ida said.
It’s over one year now and the dream looks like it’s still very much alive. It is Tim’s time.
