Petty politics and malpractice will not be tolerated in cooperative societies

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has called for radical measures in the management of cooperative societies.
In his address, while hosting the World Bank Mission delegation for NARIGP project assessment and NAVCDP project implementation, Governor Lusaka noted with uttermost concern the mismanagement of cooperative societies in the county, calling for radical measures to address the malpractice.
“Cooperative societies are instrumental in driving our farmers economic agendas.I therefore task the county agriculture department to move swiftly and ensure they restore sanity in the cooperative societies within the county,” he reiterated.
He cautioned,”Petty politics and malpractice will not be tolerated in cooperative societies,”Cooperative societies”,promising legal action against those found engaging in corrupt vices.
The Chairperson of the Agriculture Committee of the Council of Governors further challenged county governments to invest in strong cooperative movements, emphasizing the need for proper management structures.
“County governments should embrace cooperative societies to drive the agriculture agenda to accommodate all farmers, he recommended.
Furthermore, the Speaker Emeritus acknowledged the invaluable efforts by the World Bank partners in empowering smallholder farmers across the county through value chains visibly implemented in the National Rural Inclusive Growth Project (NARIGP).
“We appreciate the World Bank for their steadfast commitment towards our farmers empowerment. As a county government, we take pride in the 21,907 farmers whose lives have been transformed through NARIGP project value chains: dairy, poultry, bananas, and beans,” phe concluded.
