The Nairobi County Assembly has initiated an investigation into possible misappropriation and corruption concerning the Universal Health Coverage Fund housed at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital.
According to a statement released by Kilimani MCA Moses Ogeto, the Governor’s administration is required to clarify the origin of the fund, the legal framework governing its establishment, and provide details of projects undertaken at Mutuini Hospital utilizing the same funds, among other inquiries.
Ogeto emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in managing public resources, stating that the Assembly has a duty to safeguard these resources. He called for comprehensive information regarding the fund’s creation, regulations governing its operation, bank account details, and signatories’ records since its inception.
The statement underscores the Assembly’s oversight role in ensuring the responsible use of public funds, urging the Health Department to provide the requested information promptly. Ogeto stressed the need for clarity on whether the Universal Health Coverage Fund was initiated by the Assembly or established through other means, emphasizing the importance of adhering to proper legal procedures.
