DP Rigathi Gachagua Assures Continued Support for Flood-Affected Kenyans
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Tuesday reaffirmed the commitment of the government to provide both moral and material support to Kenyans grappling with the devastating effects of mudslides and floods triggered by heavy rains.
In a visit to Ngutu Primary School in Kiganjo, Mathioya Constituency, Murang’a County, Gachagua extended condolences to grieving families and offered solace to those displaced by the natural disasters.
The recent onslaught of enhanced rains has inflicted widespread damage across several regions of Kenya, exacerbating the plight of vulnerable communities.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Gachagua emphasized the importance of assessing the extent of the damage to inform effective mitigation strategies and prompt action.
“We continue offering moral and material support to Kenyans hit hard by mudslides and floods, caused by enhanced rains. It is also an opportunity to assess the situation to inform mitigation decisions and actions,” stated Deputy President Gachagua.
Gachagua said his office is actively involved in providing humanitarian assistance to affected individuals. Additionally, targeted interventions aimed at building resilience in communities vulnerable to natural disasters are being implemented.
“We are working with partners in offering humanitarian support to the people as we also put in place targeted interventions of building resilience during and after the heavy rains,” assured Gachagua.
Acknowledging the collaborative effort required to address such challenges, Gachagua expressed gratitude to Governor Kang’ata, local representatives, and community leaders for their unwavering support.
The collective response, he noted, underscores the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in mitigating the impact of natural disasters and ensuring the well-being of affected populations.
Among the dignitaries present during Gachagua’s visit were Governor Irungu Kang’ata, Nyeri Woman Representative Rahab Mukami, Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia, Othaya MP Michael Wainaina, as well as local MCAs Edwin Mwangi and Jane Mukami.
Their presence signified a unified commitment to addressing the immediate needs of the affected communities and implementing long-term measures to enhance resilience.
