Nairobi County Forges Ahead with Metal and Woodwork Industry in Mathare under CAIPs Project

The Nairobi City County Government is making strides in its industrial development agenda with plans underway to construct the first metal and woodwork industry in the Mathare area as part of the County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIPs) project.

Currently, a geotechnical survey is in progress to assess the site’s suitability for the proposed development.

Speaking at a recent progress report roundtable session, Executive Member for Business and Hustler Opportunities (BHO), Ms. Maureen Njeri, underscored the collaborative nature of the CAIPs project between the county and national government.

She emphasized the project’s alignment with Governor Johnson A Sakaja’s vision of creating job opportunities for Nairobi’s residents, particularly the youth and women.

“The Industrial Park will incorporate waste recycling technologies for both liquid and solid waste and clean energy technologies such as solar and will also support innovation and competitiveness.”Ms. Njeri stated

Mr. Godfrey Akumali, Chief Officer for Trade and Industries, highlighted the significant economic impact of the project, emphasizing its potential to create one million job opportunities within five years. He stressed the importance of revenue generation in enhancing County service delivery.

Mr. Akumali urged all technical teams involved in the project to accelerate their activities within the current financial year for submission to the Council of Governors (COG), reflecting the urgency in advancing this transformative initiative.

The forthcoming metal and woodwork industry in Mathare underscores Nairobi County’s commitment to fostering industrialization, job creation, and sustainable development.

As the CAIPs project gains momentum, it promises to not only boost economic opportunities but also contribute to environmental sustainability through innovative waste management and clean energy technologies.
