KEMSA Chairman Initiates Collaborations to Enhance Cancer Care in Kenya
Mr. Irungu Nyakera, Chairman of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), is spearheading efforts to improve cancer care in Kenya through strategic collaborations and partnerships. In a recent stakeholder meeting with AstraZeneca, key initiatives were discussed to bolster cancer care services nationwide.
One of the primary outcomes of the meeting is the development of a framework to ensure all eligible patients have access to oncology drugs at KEMSA at the most affordable prices possible. This move aims to alleviate financial burdens on patients while ensuring they receive essential medications promptly.
Furthermore, Mr. Nyakera and AstraZeneca are exploring opportunities to invest in prostate and breast cancer screening platforms in the 47 county referral hospitals. By expanding access to screening services, the goal is to facilitate early detection and intervention, ultimately improving patient outcomes.
The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) will provide reimbursement for the patient journey for all eligible patients, addressing logistical and financial barriers to accessing cancer care.
Mr. Nyakera’s dedication to providing proper diagnostics, affordable medications, and access to essential healthcare services underscores his commitment to improving the lives of cancer patients in Kenya.
Through collaborative efforts, he aims to make significant strides in the fight against cancer and ensure that all Kenyans have access to quality care.
