Stop Riding on Raila’s AU Bid Support to Silence Opposition- Wamalwa
The Kenya Kwanza administration has been cautioned to stop taking advantage of supporting Azimio leader Raila Amolo Odinga’s bid for the African Union (AU) chairmanship to silence the opposition fraternity in the country.
Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) party leader Eugene Wamalwa said they won’t stop criticizing President William Ruto’s style of leadership and pointed out that Raila still remains the opposition leader under the Azimio banner.
He said he suspects the Ruto administration has a hidden agenda in throwing its weight behind Raila’s bid which is to silence them but vowed they will continue to champion for the rights of the electorate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We are the voice of the electorate and we must be heard on behalf of the less fortunate,” he said.
Eugene added that they have vowed to stand with oppressed Kenyans and to speak on their behalf.
He was speaking during the consecration of Redeemed Gospel Church-Magongo Bishop Joseph Maweru and Rev Agnes Maweru in Changamwe constituency, Mombasa county.
The DAP-K party leader said they won’t keep quiet on the scandal of distribution of fake fertilizer through a subsidy program facing President Ruto’s government with Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi under siege with his impeachment looming over the fake fertiliser saga.
Eugene said they will continue to comment on the floods havoc where people have lost their lives while many others are displaced with many casualties reported and accused the government of taking a back seat.
He pointed out Raila is entitled to comment on matters facing the country and dismissed claims that the Azimio leader is not allowed to talk since he is bidding for the AU chairmanship.
“Raila is firmly in Azimio and is allowed to comment on issues affecting the electorate despite his AU quest,” Eugene said.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka also echoed the same sentiments.
