Tons of Plastics Waste Generated Daily in Mombasa County – USAID
United States Agency for International Development (US Aid) Kenya office environment officer Anna Ghnouly has challenged local enterprises to take their businesses seriously and with dedication.
She urged them to be committed to take up the challenge so they can move forward in their businesses.
“It’s important for them to take their businesses forward in an onwards transmission,” she pointed out.
Anna argued that commitment by local enterprises to move their businesses forward is the most important thing.
She was speaking during the graduation ceremony of nine local enterprises held at Sarova Whitesands hotel in Mombasa county.
The officer lauded the Mombasa Plastics Prize (MPP) Incubator for their efforts in collecting over 23 tones of waste since the inception of the programme creating a pipeline of 545 green jobs.
The USAID Kenya office environment officer told the ceremony that it is estimated that approximately 120 metric tons of plastic waste is generated daily in Mombasa county.
She added that since October last year the graduates, as promising start-ups from the Mombasa Plastics Prize [MPP], have received training to nurture essentials skills.
“The skills are to launch green businesses that will help combat the county’s pervasive plastic waste issue,” she pointed out.
The USAID Kenya office environment officer said they are committed to imitate what the MPP has in place which reflects its dedication to fostering sustainable development.
Anna added that this is for empowering future generations and underscores the agency’s recognition of the transformation power of the community–driven action in addressing complex global challenges.
