KPA Boss Calls for Deployment of More Ships
Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Managing Director Captain William Ruto has urged the shipping industry to have confidence in the port operation and efficiency to deploy more vessels at the port facility.
He said the authority is proud to associate with the industry which has the confidence of deploying more vessels en route.
“The authority is ready to work with the industry which shows confidence in the facility,” he pointed out.
Captain Ruto said the facility has crossed the over one million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUSS) mark.
He made the remarks during the reception of newly built modern MV Ever Vim by Ever Green Marine Corporation when it made its maiden voyage to dock at berth number 22 at the port of Mombasa in Mombasa county. The KPA Managing Director navigated the vessel into the port facility.
The KPA MD added that the authority’s projection this year is to do more than 1.8 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUS).
Captain Ruto told the media this is more than 10 per growth compared to last year.
He disclosed the projection is a positive move for the facility this year.
“Before that it was 0.4 per cent with the performance in 2023 being good,” he said.
The KPA boss said in the month of May the facility broke a record by handling more than 176,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
