Imams and Preachers of Kenya embark on countywide peace initiative
Muslim clerics have resolved to embark on a countrywide peace initiative following anti government protests where loss of lives and destruction of properties were the order of the day.
Under the umbrella Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) the clerics have resolved to make use of their places of worship to preach peace.
Led by CIPK National Chairman Abdalla Ateka they argued peace is vital for daily activities to take place to drive the country’s economy, including the initiation of developments projects.
He said they have resolved to hold the forum to stress on the importance of peace adding that the country required peace.
They were addressing the media during the launch of importance of peace initiative forum held at Babuchi Hall in Mvita constituency, Mombasa county.
The CIPK National Chairman told those who had attended the forum drawn from six counties they are ambassadors of peace.
Ateka reminded the forum that during the anti government protests everything came to a stand still as they paralyzed daily operations countywide.
He insisted their caravan of importance of peace initiative forum will traverse the entire 47 counties to preach the gospel and carry out civic education.
“We are going to make use of our branches to preach for peace,” he pointed out.
The CIPK National Chairman warned the country to stop taking peace and stability for granted saying it is vital and must prevail.
