Cabinet nominee for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime ministry Hassan Ali Joho confirmed he has resigned as Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy part leader.
He said upon his nomination by President William Ruto and before he  appeared for vetting he had resigned from his party position.
“I want to remain in ODM as an ordinary party member,” he pointed out.
Joho sought to put his political record straight by insisting he does not hold any party position as he appeared for vetting.
He spoke before the Parliamentary Committee on Appointments for vetting on the last day of the  exercise at City Hall in Nairobi county.
The cabinet nominee told the committee he is a shareholder in the family business with cash at the bank.
Joho, who is a pioneer governor of Mombasa county and who had served as Transport assistant minister during the coalition government under late Mwai Kibaki, told the committee his network is personal and not the family business network.
He told the committee he has developed a 10 point master plan to enhance growth in the industry.
“The sector is powerful in the country’s economy which is untapped as a source of employment,” he said.
The cabinet nominee told the committee he will ensure the ministry’s processes are digitized.
