Mining Experts to Monitor Exports for Accurate Revenue Reporting -Joho
The government will station experts on export of products from the mining industry at the port of Mombasa.
Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary Hassan Ali Joho said the government is not ready to lose a cent in mining revenue collection.
He defended the move saying it is intended to enhance revenue collection by the government from the mining industry.
“The experts in mining will be able to identify what products are being exported out of the country through the port of Mombasa,” he said.
Joho further said the move will determine whether what is being exported is value for the money.
He was speaking to the media during his second familiarization tour after being appointed at the Kenya Maritime Authority [KMA] office at Bahari Towers in Mombasa county after a closed door meeting with the authority’s top management and board members. The CS was flanked by Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir.
The CS said the government is on focus to see enhanced revenue collection on goods and cargo and other products being exported.
Joho added that the government will ensure what is being mined is declared as the right thing for export at the port of Mombasa.
He reiterated that is why he is calling for the deployment of experts in mining from government agencies at the port of Mombasa.
“I was at the port of Mombasa before coming to the KMA headquarters for engagement to ensure government agencies work together, and we must station experts for export of mining products,” he pointed out.
