Safina Party Leader Jimmy Wanjigi Seeks Plea Deferral Amidst Court Order Dispute
Safina Party leader Jimmy Wanjigi and his aide David Kibe have filed an application seeking to defer their plea for four weeks, citing alleged disobedience of court orders by law enforcement agencies.
The plea was presented before trial magistrate Susan Shitubi by Wanjigi’s senior counsel team, which includes Kalonzo Musyoka, Dr. John Khaminwa, and Willis Otieno.
The legal team argued that the police had ignored two High Court orders that barred them from arresting, detaining, or charging Wanjigi and his aide. Additionally, they highlighted a separate court order from the High Court that mandated the return of Wanjigi’s firearms certificate, which was later revoked by the licensing firearms board.
Counsel Otieno indicated that they have received instructions to file a contempt of court case against the police and other investigative agencies for failing to comply with the court orders.
Wanjigi is facing 11 charges as an individual in one charge sheet and is expected to be charged alongside his aide, David Kibe, in a separate charge sheet. The outcome of the plea deferral request and the potential contempt of court case will be closely watched as the legal proceedings unfold.
