Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on Mount Kenya leaders to put aside their differences and unite in the pursuit of regional development. Speaking in Kiambu on Wednesday during the burial of two relatives of Kiambu Senator Karungo Thangwa, Gachagua stressed the importance of a united front to fulfill the promises made to the electorate.

“This is the time for unity of purpose. We must stop fighting each other and focus on delivering on our campaign promises,” Gachagua urged.

The Deputy President reiterated his commitment to advocating for the interests of the Mount Kenya region, drawing an analogy from a story about a rabbit tricking a hyena into fighting its own wife to illustrate the dangers of internal conflicts.

Gachagua also expressed his openness to welcoming the opposition into the Kenya Kwanza government, emphasizing that his priority remains supporting the people of Mount Kenya. He hinted at future guidance for the community, saying, “A time will come when I will speak, and I know you will listen. Support leaders who are championing our community’s interests.”

Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria echoed Gachagua’s call for unity, warning against allowing succession politics to divide the community. “The era of succession politics should not divide our community,” Kuria stated.

“There have been rumors of differences between the Deputy President and me, but that is not the case. I am fully behind Gachagua and President Ruto,” Kawanjiku said.

Nyandarua Senator John Methu added that all Mount Kenya leaders would support the broad-based government, urging Gachagua to collaborate with leaders from across the country. “Our Deputy President, please reach out to all leaders across the county. We are fully behind you and the President,” Methu remarked.
