Coast counties under pressure to issue financial status
The Coast Civil Society Network for Human Rights is demanding counties drawn from the region to give their financial status since they were elected.
The fraternity of civil societies led by the region’s chairman Zedekiah Adika said since the 2023 polls the county governments have not spent, collectively, less than sh 50 billion.
He said they are demanding the counties drawn from the region to reveal their financial status.
“We are wondering why the counties are silent on their financial status since they were elected,” he pointed out.
He was addressing the media on matters relating to governance at the national level and devolution at the Little Theatre Club in Mvita constituency, Mombasa county.
The Coast Civil Society Network for Human Rights chairperson argued the report should be addressed to the electorate in their respective counties.
Adika told the media they demand the counties to give their financial status before this year’s financial budget is released.
He told the media they are demanding for a financial status report since they assumed their offices.
“They must come out openly with an updated report on their financial status and their way forward,” he added.
The boss of the civil society fraternity told the well-attended media briefing that they demand for a report to the end of the next financial year.
