Host team loses opening match to visiting KCB at Driftwoods Sevens Rugby

Kenya Commercial Bank RFC in action against Mombasa Sports Club in pool A during their opening match played with all systems go as teams converge for the Mombasa Driftwood Rugby 7S at the Mombasa Sports Club in Mombasa county. The host lost to visiting KCB 39- 5.

 

Kenya Commercial Bank RFC beat Mombasa Sports Club 39- 5 in pool A during their opening match played at the Mombasa Sports Club in Mombasa County.

 

In the second match MMUST lost their opening match to Blak Blad 33- 0 with Daystar University holding  Nondescripts RFC at the 35th edition of the Driftwoods Sevens as the start of the group tournament got  underway at the Mombasa Sports Club in Mvita constituency.

 

Divisions one and two are on parade at the weekend with 36 teams having confirmed taking part in the tournament.

 

Mombasa Sports Club Rugby Football Union Chairman Mr. Rogers Lai told journalists during a media briefing the weekend tournament is a premier event of the national circuit proudly sponsored by sportspesa with co partners on board including Mombasa county government as supporting partner.

 

He told the media the tournament is the last second leg of the circuit this year and that competition has been high.

 

“From day one to the last day we expect to see serious competition,” he added.

 

Speaking at the same venue Kenya Rugby Union representative Kevin Odhiambo who also doubles up as tournament director of the national Sevens circuit told the media the circuit is a three-horse race for the local   Rugby fraternity between Kabras Sugar, KCB and Kenya Harlequins.

 

“There are other two sides mainly Catholic University and Menengai Oilers,” he said.
