Kenya Ports Authority [KPA] Project manager Kennedy Nyagah said the Mbaraki sports club will be one of its kind state-of-the-art facility in the coast region upon completion of renovations.

He said the civil work at the facility is at 80 percent completion with the only hiccup being the Suez Canal channel matter to bring the tartan into the country.

“At the moment the civil work in the renovation to upgrade the sports facility is at 80 percent complete,” he pointed out.

Nyagah said according to the program the state-of-the-art facility will be ready by November.

He was speaking when he took the inter-parliamentary joint planning committee to inspect the venue ahead of the annual parliamentary games to be held at the coastal city by end of the year.

The KPA officer said it was evident that upon completion of the renovations the Mbaraki sports club will be able to host athletic games only.

Nyagah told the 2nd joint planning committee for 14th edition of inter-parliamentary games the only hiccup was the Suez Canal channel matter to bring the tartan into the country.

He said he acknowledges the seriousness shown by the 2nd joint planning committee for 14th edition of the inter-parliamentary game scheduled to take place at end of this year.

“It’s the third time the committee has visited the venue of the games which is evident of the seriousness of the matter,” he pointed out.

Nyagah said the shipment of tartan machine takes three weeks to arrive in the country despite challenges at the Suez Canal channel adding that they are optimistic by mid November the tartan lay will be ready.

He said there is preliminary work at the facility with lay experts with cutting edge treatment.

“The football pitch and tartan have inter face drainage,” he clarified.

The KPA officer assured the inter-parliamentary games committee that in the next one week he expects the facility to have a new facelift.

Nyagah insisted the only hiccup is going round the Africa continent in the shipment to import the tartan machine due to the Suez Canal problem.

“There is a possibility of laying the tartan by November before the games kick off,” he disclosed.

Speaking earlier, East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) legislator Kanini Kega who doubles up as co chair of the 2nd joint planning committee for the 14th edition of the inter-parliamentary games said the 13rd edition as a smaller event was held in Kigali, Capital of Rwanda.

He told the media briefing eight member states will take part during this year’s annual events at the port city.

“The eight member states will participate courtesy of EALA during the event,” he said.

The EALA legislator said they have lined up football, volleyball, golf, athletics among others for members to take part in.

Kanini added the games will be used as a bonding session between the member states.

He disclosed the events will boost the tourism sector during this year’s holiday festivities.

‘’We have made adequate arrangement for the success of the events,” he pointed out.
