For many children from low-income families, attending school regularly is a challenge due to the lack of proper footwear.

Cheleta Primary School has received a donation of over 250 pairs of shoes for its PP1, PP2, and Grade 1 pupils, courtesy of the APA Apollo Foundation.

The shoes were presented by Joyce Muiruri, Brand Manager of APA Apollo Group, to Ann Kiarie, an Early Childhood Development (ECD) teacher, and Virginia Rutere, a Grade 1 teacher, at the school.

The event, attended by excited pupils, marked a significant contribution toward improving school attendance and supporting young learners.

For many children from low-income families, attending school regularly is a challenge due to the lack of proper footwear.

The long, often difficult walks to school can lead to injuries, discomfort, and absenteeism, hindering their education.

This donation aims to tackle this issue by providing comfort and protection, helping to ensure that the children can attend school more consistently.

“These new shoes will help the children attend school more regularly, reducing the chances of missed lessons due to foot injuries or harsh weather,” said Joyce Muiruri during the handover.

She emphasized that the initiative aligns with the APA Apollo Foundation’s mission to empower communities and support education, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn in a safe and comfortable environment.

The APA Apollo Foundation has been a longstanding supporter of Cheleta Primary, sponsoring the top-performing male and female students since 2006.

The initiative is part of the Foundation’s broader commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Quality Education, and has benefitted 52 students to date.
