More Than 13.6M Registered With Social Health Authority- Health PS
The government continues to put on a brave face in the face of a crisis
State Department for Medical Services Principal Secretary Harry Kachuwai Kimtai said a total of 13.6 million Kenyans have registered with the Social Health Authority [SHA].
He said the government is optimistic by end of this year every Kenyan would have registered with the controversial Social Health Authority [SHA].
“We are encouraged with the numbers of those registering going up daily,” he said.
Kimtai said the government’s mission is to ensure county governments own the membership enrollment drive.
He was addressing the media amid confusion over the replacing of the National Health Insurance Fund [NHIF] with SHA as the government continues to put on a brave face in the face of a crisis.
The PS was speaking after meeting various county commissioners and county executive committee members in charge of health drawn from the coast region at Sarova Whitesands hotel in Mombasa county.
The Medical Services Principal Secretary told the well-attended media briefing that the government will give county commissioners and county executive committee members in charge of health across the country support to ensure the countrywide success of the rollout and the registration to the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
Kimtai said the meeting resolved to form an implementation committee to support the roll out of SHA.
He disclosed they have agreed on the structure which will be used by the health committees and village leaders who will go to every household to ensure the success of the exercise.
“We have realized most of the households are not registered,” he pointed out.
