Furious Employees at Kenya YearBook Editorial Board Want CEO Lilian Kimeto Fired
Employees of the Kenya Year Book Editorial Board have petitioned for the removal of the Chief Executive Officer Lilian Kimeto over abuse of office and frustration of junior staff.
The employees have claimed that since the assumption of office, the CEO has made the work environment toxic which is affecting their mental wellbeing.
In the petition letter dated 4th November 2024 and addressed to the KYBEB board and the Ministry of ICT, they alleged that the toxic environment created by the CEO has led to some of them being sick hence not working for the benefit of the government.
“Since the new CEO Lilian Kimeto joined our institution, the working environment has become too toxic. More employees have gotten sick and diagnosed with high blood pressure. We seem to be doing nothing that aids our government’s communication, which is what we are mandated to do but following the CEO around and doing her PR or hiding in the office.” The employees said in their petition letter.
The employees claim that the CEO has no respect to the board, which she claims will always operate as per her wishes.
“ She speaks badly about the board and also about you.She has told staff that you are annoying and clueless and that the Board will always do what she wants as she gives you per diems and you all like the money,”
The employees also claim that the CEO has a negative view of the board’s chairperson Ms.Wambui B.Ng’ang’a who she claims is always called for grilling by EACC.
They attributed the resignation of the Head of Human Resource and the death of the editorial manager to the said toxic environment.
“Lilian Kimeto insults her management staff and mentally abuses them to the point that none of them want anything to do with her. She orders junior employees to do what their HODS refuse to do due to irregularity, undermining her management staff. And to just show how bad it is, even the new employees, who joined after her, have been bullied and mentally abused and are thinking of resigning. Everybody wants to leave.” They said in the petition.
Further, the employees stated that the toxicity has made them even fear for their lives because of the numerous threats they have been receiving from Kimeto.
They have called for the immediate suspension of the CEO adding that if action is not taken immediately, the organization will end up losing more people to mental illness and resignations.
A lobby group privy to the matter is also believed to be working on a petition to the National Assembly and the senate to seek her removal.
