Laini Saba Residents Demand Chief’s Removal Over Corruption Allegations
Tensions are escalating in Laini Saba as residents express frustration over alleged corruption by their area chief, whom they are now threatening to forcibly remove from office. The chief, who has served the community for over a decade, is accused of accepting bribes and protecting offenders, allowing crime to thrive.
John Musila Ndile, Laini Saba’s Member of County Assembly (MCA) and Deputy Majority Leader in Nairobi, has voiced the community’s grievances. He alleges that the chief takes bribes from those arrested for illegal activities, such as brewing and drug use, to shield them from prosecution.
“Residents have long shared their frustrations about the corruption here,” said Musila, widely known as Kaende. “I’ve uncovered instances of the chief demanding illegal fees, including Ksh. 500 for national ID applications, and denying rightful beneficiaries food aid and donations for personal gain. He often arrives at work as late as 2 p.m.”
Local leaders have echoed Musila’s concerns. Simon Shikote, a children’s football coach, highlighted the chief’s refusal to vacate his position despite reportedly receiving an official notice to leave. “A letter was issued instructing the chief to step down, but he has ignored it. We need government intervention,” Shikote urged.
Youth leader Mary Mugure added that the chief was recently implicated in a Ksh. 10,000 corruption case. Although his assistant resigned under pressure, Chief Richard Soi has remained in office.
“We’re prepared to physically remove the chief and lock up the office until real change is made,” warned Mugure.
The situation in Laini Saba underscores deep-seated issues of corruption and security, with residents calling for urgent government action to restore integrity and trust in the area.
