Joho Vows to Resolve Long-Standing Challenges in Coast Region’s Fisheries Sector
He said in previous years seamen were doing well but things went wrong somewhere in the middle.
Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary Hassan Ali Joho has disclosed the government is committed to end perennial problems facing the fisheries industry in the coast region.
He said this is the best opportunity for the government to end the challenges facing the fisheries industry in the region.
“It is under my docket and I hail from the region and therefore I will ensure challenges facing fishermen in the coast region are resolved,” he said.
Joho insisted that being Cabinet Secretary in the government he will ensure challenges facing fishermen in the coast region are resolved once and for all.
He was speaking during a graduation ceremony for over 100 STOW graduates held at Bandari Maritime Academy in Mombasa county. A total of over 100 students graduated courtesy of the Mvita-National Government Constituencies Development Fund.
The CS said he welcomes such an open forum saying it is healthy for the government of the day to focus on and articulate the issues affecting the people.
Joho, who was flanked by area legislator Mohamed Soud Machele, Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, Mombasa County speaker Aharub Khatri and Bandari Maritime Academy chief executive officer Eric Katana, said for the government to give waivers to the students at the learning facility the request must follow the laid down procedures.

“I wish to call for concerted efforts to reclaim back to society the seamen industry,” he said.
