A political storm is brewing in Kenya as the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) has called for swift and firm action against Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo, accusing him of making defamatory and misogynistic remarks against Senator Fatuma Dullo.

The association, through a strongly worded statement released on Monday, June 2, urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to launch an urgent probe into the matter.

Governor Guyo, during a recent public address, took a personal jab at Senator Dullo, making derogatory comments that referenced her marital status and insinuated an inappropriate relationship. KEWOPA condemned the remarks as a clear act of character assassination and gender-based intimidation, branding them “inflammatory and defamatory.”

According to the association, this is not the first time Dullo has been on the receiving end of such attacks from the Governor, especially following her efforts to hold the Isiolo County government accountable over expenditures and county operations.

“Such attacks not only diminish the integrity of Senator Dullo but also undermine the dignity and standing of all Kenyan women leaders,” KEWOPA stated.

They argued that these comments reflect the persistent gender discrimination that female leaders continue to face in Kenya’s political arena.

KEWOPA emphasized that targeting a woman leader for executing her oversight role is a direct affront to the constitutional principles of accountability, equality, and good governance.

They called on all leaders to uphold respect, dignity, and inclusivity in political discourse and urged relevant institutions to act decisively to protect democratic values.

This incident has ignited a national conversation on the treatment of women in politics, shining a spotlight on the need for structural change and mutual respect across Kenya’s leadership landscape.
