The battle to unseat Langata Member of Parliament Felic Jalang’o had started in earnest -with more than seven candidates having declared interest.
However, focus seems to have narrowed down to the incumbent and South C Member of County Assembly Abass Khalif.
Abass who is well known business man and ODM die hard supporter has already declared his intention to contest the seat on the party’s ticket.
He is a close friend to ODM leader Raila Odinga and has vowed to wrestle the ticket from the incumbent,whom he blames for dishonesty and failure to be loyal to the party’s activities.
Abass pulled a major win during the party’s grassroots elections that saw people he supported win key positions,among them the new constitutuency’s chairman Kennedy Oyugi who is the High Rise MCA.
Langata has five wards which includes; South C, Highrise, Nairobi West,Mugumoini and Karen wards.
All the elected MCAs belong to the Orange party.
According to Abass, Langata is an important Constituency because it was formerly represented by Mr Odinga himself,hence need for loyalty and respect from whoever is elected as MP under the party.
” We cannot have someone whose soul and heart is somewhere but still under our party,we must reclaim ODM’s superiority in Langata and have someone who works diligently for the people and propels the party colours,” he said.
He added that the residents have been kept in darkness over the operations of the National Government and Constituency Development Funds( NG-CDF).
” Transparency in how we use these funds is lacking and this is something that we are seeking to fix,”
