Embakasi East MP Babu Owino announced his run for Nairobi governor during a Tuesday night appearance on Citizen TV’s JKL panel, alongside  Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, calling the city a ‘graveyard of garbage’ and ‘cemetery of corruption’ in need of fixes.

The firebrand MP revealed he has received an overwhelming public feedback over his plans of unseating Governor Johnson Sakaja, something he noted reflects growing confidence in youthful leadership ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“By God’s grace, I will be the next governor of Nairobi. But again, I will leave a window because I received around nine million messages in my inbox, telling me to go for president, then 8.9 million of them telling me to go for governor,” he said.

Babu criticized current Governor Johnson Sakaja’s leadership on waste, flooding, and graft.

He further accused his party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leadership of drifting from the ideals of its late longtime leader Raila Odinga, and said his name is bigger than any political party if his disagreements with the current party leadership spills to 2027.

I will be the next governor of Nairobi. My name is bigger than any political party. The juice is worth the squeeze, and we must correct the wrongs in this county,” he added.
