Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has accused the Jubilee Party’s social media handlers of engaging in “petty politics” after allegedly omitting Deputy Party Leader Jeremiah Kioni from an official post about a condolence visit.
In a statement on Saturday, Wambugu said the party’s official Facebook page failed to acknowledge Kioni’s presence during a visit by senior Jubilee officials to the home of the late David Kiaraho, a Jubilee MP who passed away recently. The visit took place two days ago and was led by Kioni, who hails from the same county as the late legislator.
“The fellow who manages the official Jubilee Party Facebook page does not like Kioni,” Wambugu claimed. “Not only did he fail to recognize that Kioni was the head of the delegation, he did not even bother mentioning that Kioni was present or post any of his pictures.”
Wambugu described the omission as disrespectful and unbecoming, especially given the solemn nature of the visit. “These guys don’t even have the good manners not to play petty politics with something this important and solemn,” he said.
The former MP also recalled a similar incident during a past event in Nyeri attended by former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, where he alleged that the party’s social media team deliberately excluded his participation from their posts.
“I honestly do not care as it doesn’t take anything away from the fact that I am the one who mobilized the crowd of supporters they were so happy to share on the party page,” Wambugu said, adding that his team had “laughed off” the incident.
However, he expressed concern that such internal divisions and personal grudges were undermining the party’s cohesion and public image. “For a junior officer to ignore the presence of a deputy party leader because he doesn’t like him—it’s no wonder we can’t seem to get anything right as a party,” he stated.
The Jubilee Party has not yet issued an official response to Wambugu’s allegations.
