
Rodgers Nabusoba in the dock at the Makadara Law Courts
A Ugandan National suspected to be among two criminal suspects who accosted a 32-year-old woman robbed her of a mobile phone before dragging her into a makeshift structure in Mathare slums, Nairobi where they raped her in turns is facing charges of gangrape.
Rodgers Nabusomba is accused of gangrape in contravention of section 10 of the Sexual Offences Act (SOA) of 2006 where he is accused of raping SJ in conjunction with others at large.
At the Makadara law courts, Namosoba is accused of committing the offence on August 12, 2025.
The suspect is charged with an alternative count of committing an indecent act with an adult contrary to section 11 of SOA in which he is accused of unlawfully and intentionally touching SJ’s genitals without her consent.
Nabusoba was also charged with the capital offence of robbery with violence contrary to section 296 (2) of the penal code where he is accused of robbing SJ of her phone worth Sh20, 000 during the incident. He is accused of using violence during the alleged robbery.
He denied the charges before Senior Resident Magistrate Wandia Nyamu. He was remanded in custody to await a social inquiry report that will assist the magistrate in determining appropriate bail and bind terms.
SJ who works as a house-help in Eastleigh was visiting her sister in Kwa Mutisya area but found she had separated with her husband and left without trace.
The survivor started walking around looking for a place to sleep when she was attacked by two men around 8pm, who dragged her into a house in Kampala Ndogo area where they raped and forced her to sweep the house after the ordeal.
She was later taken to a bar where she was given a blanket and ordered to sleep until morning.
The survivor was woken up by people who turned up at the bar and she shared what had happened to her and identified the people who had raped her as they were still around.
SJ was rescued and taken to Mathare Police station where she reported the matter.
Police escorted her to Medisen San Frontiers in Mathare where she was treated.
The suspect was traced and arrested. His accomplice is still being pursued by the police.
Nabusomba’s case will be mentioned on September 23.
