Conflicting statements have emerged from ODM leader Raila Odinga’s family regarding reports about his health, sparking confusion among supporters and renewed concern over the opposition chief’s wellbeing.

While Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga, Raila’s elder brother, confirmed that the former Prime Minister had been unwell but was “recovering well under close medical supervision,” Raila’s wife Ida Odinga swiftly downplayed the remarks, saying the issue had been “blown out of proportion.”

Speaking in Bondo on Sunday, Oburu said Raila had experienced what he described as “normal fatigue after a busy travel schedule,” assuring Kenyans there was no cause for alarm.

“Baba is doing well. He was just a bit tired after his recent trips and engagements. He is under care and resting. Kenyans should not worry,” Oburu said.

However, in a separate interview, Ida insisted that her husband was in good health and going about his routine, urging the public to ignore unverified claims circulating online.

“There is nothing unusual. Raila is fine. People should stop spreading unnecessary panic,” she said.

The mixed messages from two of Raila’s closest relatives have fueled speculation on social media, with supporters demanding clarity on the ODM leader’s condition. The 79-year-old has kept a relatively low public profile in recent weeks, following a series of regional and international engagements, including meetings with African Union officials and COMESA leaders.

Political observers note that Raila’s health has often been a sensitive subject, given his prominent role in both national politics and continental diplomacy. His supporters view any sign of ill health with deep concern, while critics frequently seize on such reports to advance political narratives.

ODM officials have since called for restraint, accusing political detractors of exploiting the matter for attention.

“This is a private issue that should be handled with
