The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has announced that it will conduct grassroots elections in 20 counties on Saturday, January 10, 2026, marking the final phase of its nationwide internal polls ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The party’s National Elections Board (NEB) said registration for all aspirants opens on Thursday, December 4 at noon and will run until 5 pm on December 23.

The upcoming elections will cover counties that did not take part in the earlier rounds, including Baringo, Bomet, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kericho, Nakuru, Nandi, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Samburu, Embu, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang’a, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Kakamega and Vihiga.

“These elections will cover counties that have not yet held polls,” said NEB chairman Anthony Mwaura in a statement.
He added that once registered, candidates are free to campaign until election day, with detailed polling guidelines to be issued soon.

The decision was ratified during a joint meeting of the UDA National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Elections Board, chaired by Deputy Party Leader Prof. Kithure Kindiki. The meeting resolved to complete the final round of grassroots elections before the end of the first quarter of 2026.

UDA last held grassroots elections in 22 counties in April 2025, with more than 113,800 aspirants participating — one of the largest internal party contests in Kenya’s political history.

The January 2026 elections will wrap up the process, enabling the party to solidify structures at the ward, constituency and county levels as it positions itself for a rigorous 2027 campaign cycle.

According to UDA, the grassroots polls are intended to “deepen internal democracy, enhance participation and strengthen local party organs” ahead of the next national election.
