The body of the woman, 20, was on December 20 found lying at the entrance of her house after she was stabbed in the stomach and back during a confrontation.

Her husband was later arrested and detained for grilling over murder, police said. He claimed he acted in self-defence after being attacked.

The woman was six months pregnant, police in Komarocks, Nairobi said.

Witnesses and police said the couple had quarrelled in their house over money issues before the woman tried to pick up a kitchen knife and threatened her husband.

The husband then grabbed the weapon from her and used it to stab her fatally.

Her body was found lying in a pool of blood by her brother, who tried to rescue her in vain.

Police arrived at the scene and moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

The murder weapon was also recovered at the scene, police said.

The husband was expected in court on Monday, December 22, to face murder charges, police said.
