Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has rubbished retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s remarks on the protection of political parties in the country, accusing him of hypocrisy.

On Wednesday, Mudavadi stated that Uhuru cannot credibly speak about safeguarding multiparty democracy when, during his tenure as Jubilee Party leader, he oversaw the dissolution of at least 12 political parties, including the UDF, TNA, and URP, into the Jubilee Party between 2015 and 2016.

“It is dishonest for the former President to lecture the country on protecting political parties when his record shows the opposite,” Mudavadi said.

Speaking at the funeral of veteran politician Cyrus Jirongo, Uhuru Kenyatta lashed out at leaders he accused of meddling in the internal affairs of other political parties and called for cooperation and unity to strengthen national cohesion.

During his address, Uhuru also directed his jibe at a section of ODM leaders  who have claimed the former head of state is using proxies to rock the party from within.

“When someone fails to win acceptance, they start looking for someone to blame. Get rid of that mindset, go speak directly to the people, form and build your own party with clear policies like Cyrus Jirongo did,” Uhuru said.
