Details emerge of Jubilee party plan to reward Sicily Kariuki with direct ticket ahead of nominations

The fight to succeed Nyandarua governor Francis Kimemia has taken a new shape after one word on the street claims that former cabinet minister Sicily will be awarded a direct party ticket.

Several sources familiar with development have eluded that president Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to visit the county shortly in a bid to rally locals behind her as the elections draw near.

Sicily served diligently in Uhuru’s government with no single scandal in the ministries that she held.

Several sources within Jubilee party have revealed that a deal was brokered over the weekend where Kimemia who has served for one term was promised top appointment in the Azimio government incase Raila wins.

They informed the writer that Mr Francis Kimemia was requested to concentrate on selling Raila Odinga’s presidential bid in Mount Kenya.Kimemia was allegedly comfortable with supporting Sicily Kariuki and concentrate on Raila candidature.

Before vying for the governor race in 2017, Kimemia served as the head of Public Service a position he might be handed back in the Azimio government.

According to an opinion poll recently conducted, Nyandarua residents felt uncomfortable with his re-election considering in previous years, he had lived in Kiamunyeki, Bahati, Nakuru County, unlike Sicily Kariuki who has been in Nyandarua for years.

“A deal was brokered over the Weekend for Kimemia to step down for Sicily Kariuki and be appointed to head Raila presidential campaign just like his Laikipia counterpart Nderitu Mureithi,” a source said adding that the two are expected to hold a press briefing for Kimemia to endorse her rival on Jubilee primaries.

Jubilee party officials recently said that there will be no nominations in areas where there will be a single candidate, or where the aspirants will negotiate to have one person run under the party.

According to sources, the Jubilee felt that Sicily Kariuki has a more positive response on the ground and she should be left to face off with her opponents from UDA and other parties.

The assurance comes as a big relief to the Murang’a gubernatorial aspirant Jamleck Kamau who was recently issued a direct ticket by the party.

Speaking on Sunday during a political rally in Ndaragwa, Sicily hailed his supporters whom she described as God sent.

Pressed to clear the air on the resignation of Francis Kimemia, she kept smiling but said a huge announcement will be made but she didn’t state when.

She underscored that she is not banking on any external support to clinch the governor seat, exuding confidence that she will win on the Jubilee party.

She promised to deliver on the manifestos that she has outlined for her people.

 “I have done my mathematics. I am a seasoned politician and having served with specialized leaders like Uhuru Kenyatta and others I know my stand and position and again, leadership is not about following people blindly but about showing people the right way. I am confident that I will win, “Sicily told her supporters on Sunday.

Sicily assured residents that she is the best bet for the seat saying she will deliver quality services to residents.

She said that once elected, her administration will tackle the issues of infrastructure and unemployment among youths.

The former CS claimed the county has about 97 percent of youths who aren’t employed yet they’re educated.

Sicily further noted that she will ensure that the first job opportunities will be given to locals before outsourcing from other Counties

“In Nyandarua County, we have a lot of problems that will be addressed by my government. I know I will deliver on what am promising,” she said.
