The 45th Kenya Commercial Bank cum Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association [KESSHA] annual national conference got under way at the Sheikh Zayed Hall in Nyali constituency in Mombasa county instead of the traditional venue at the Kenya School of Revenue Administration [KESRA] ground along the Mombasa, Malindi Road.
KESSHA National Chairman Indimuli Kahi said the conference will run for five days and almost 10,000 head teachers are expected to attend after being halted for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He reiterated the pandemic brought everything in the country to a standstill including the education sector.”We wish to applaud the measures put in place by the health ministry and the government to contain the outbreak,” he said.
Indimuli said the association through the teachers service commission conformed with the government directive to contain the spread of the pandemic. He was addressing the media on the first day of the conference which is being held for the first time at Sheikh Zayed Hall in Nyali constituency.
The KESSHA National Chairman said the theme of this year’s conference is re-examining our future together, a new era of education in Kenya.
Indimuli told journalists the theme for the forum is intended to ensure stakeholders reexamine the education system in a new way.
He insisted the sector is coming out from the pandemic and at the same time is in transition from the 8-4-4 system to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
“There is urgency for all stakeholders to put their heads together for the smooth transition from the old to the new system,” he pointed out.
The association chairman acknowledged the schools principals play a critical role in education and in giving their suggestions.
