The race for the Kajiado Gubernatorial race took a new twist after Jubilee leaders led by David Murathe and Peter Kenneth endorsed incumbent Joseph Ole Lenku.

The move is a major blow to former governor David Nkedianye who is the Jubilee party flag bearer.

Lenku got the rare support when ODM leader Raila Odinga attended official launch in Kajiado town.Nkedianya and his running mate Joseph Manje skipped the event.

All leaders who attended the event rallied locals to reelect Ole Lenku.

Murathe endorsed Lenku as the official Azimio candidate for Kajiado, noting that it was important for the coalition’s voters not to divide their votes.

” He has done a good job and we congratulate him but what we want is to support and have him reelected,” Murathe said.

Peter Kenneth who is a leading figure in the Azimio coalition noted that it was important for Kajiado to unite and support their leaders, noting that Lenku’s humility and support to President Uhuru and Raila Odinga should be rewarded.

” You have done a good job and your support to the President and Raila Odinga must be rewarded by this voters who will give you another term.

ODM leader Raila Odinga acknowledged that their is sibling rivalry in the coalition but explained that despite being it’s presidential candidate,he has a duty to popularize his party and candidates running for various seats.

The former Prime Minister exuded confidence that Lenku will emerge victorious in the August elections.

” This man has shown us what he can do and we have confidence that he is going to come back as the governor of Kajiado,” Raila said.

On his part,Lenku promised to deliver majority of parliamentary seats and over 25 MCA seats to the party.

” We are determined to bring victory to Azimio because this is where Kajiado people want to be and l want to promise that we going to bring this seats home,” Lenku said.

Lenku was elected on the Jubilee party ticket but switched camp to ODM after his main opponent- Nkedianye moved to Jubilee in anticipation of party primaries,a move that has plunged the former Governor into more confusion.

Nkedianye was banking on the full support of the Jubilee party but his game plan is seemingly hitting a dead end.

Local political observers have opined that the open endorsement of Lenku by Jubilee leaders and Raila Odinga spells doom to Nkedianye’s chances because the locals hold Raila’s stand in high regard.
