The Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association Chairman Johnson Nzioka has called upon authorities to act with speed to punish errant students who recently attacked a teacher.

His sentiments come after students beat and badly injured a teacher at Maraba Secondary school in Nandi County last week.

Mr Nzioka said, “If this unbecoming behaviour is not nipped in the bud, this puts the teachers in danger. How come the students are now turning against the teachers yet the teachers have not been using any mode of punishment that can harm the student?” Mr Nzioka quipped.

Mr Nzioka took issue with parents urging them to ensure that their children are brought up in a responsible manner observing the tenets of discipline.

“Parents of nowadays have failed. In the olden days, the child was Disciplined by the entire community but it’s no longer the case.”

This, Mr Nzioka attributed to absentee parents a phenomenon which has been occasioned by tough economic times.
