Charter flights Resumption to Boost Tourism Sector Ahead of December Holidays

A Total of 88 tourists from Frankfurt in Germany landed in the coast region over the weekend.       

The Condor charter flight landed at Mombasa’s Moi international airport to a warm reception amid tight security. 

The Boeing 767-300 took an 8 hours flight from Germany via Zanzibar where it dropped 120 tourists for their holiday.   

The arrival of the international tourists comes after the COVID-19 pandemic and after a contested presidential election between Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate Wiliam Ruto and Azimio coalition leader Raila Odinga as a transition from former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration in which Ruto was Deputy President and now the President.      

There was beehive of activity at Severin Sea Lodge where the tourists and cabin crew checked in and were welcomed and entertained by local traditional dancers.

Veteran Boeing pilot Alfred  Kohler told journalists during a brief interview that he was impressed by the beautification work at the remodeled Makupa roundabout, formerly Makupa Causeway, at Kibirani where there are statues of elephants.

He lauded the past regime for the commissioning of the Makupa bridge which has eased traffic flow.

“We took less time to reach the hotel compared to the last time we visited,” he pointed out.

On his part,  hotel  General Manager, Mr Tuva Mwahunga said historically the Condor charter flights have been a major boost to the tourism sector in the coast region.

He welcomed the return of the charter flights after the Covid 19 pandemic and after the August 9 general election.   

“I have officially joined the team at the hotel after its re-opening after it was closed down during the outbreak of the deadly disease,” he pointed out.

Ian said they have heavily invested in the installation CCTV to curb  drugs using revelers in the club.

He asked Mombasa governor  Abdulswamad Nassir to expedite the proposed single license permit to business operators.     

“The move will end the unnecessary multi-licensing in one business and it is a bold step which is welcome by upcoming businesses,” he pointed out.
