Hope for Cheap Chapati, Bread as Wheat from Ukraine Arrives In Mombasa

A total of 51,400 metric tones of wheat from Ukraine is being offloaded at the port of Mombasa along berth number three.
Ukraine ambassador to Kenya Pravednyk Andrii witnessed the offloading of the commodity through Grain Bulk Handlers Limited berth under Louis Dreyfus shipping company.
He told the media during a brief ceremony held at the M V Super Henry which brought in the commodity that the consignment is the first shipment into the country since the Russian invasion early this year.
“My country is one of the world’s largest grain suppliers with a share in global trade of around 10 per cent,” he pointed out.
The envoy said he regretted the war against his country has affected about 25 per cent of the world’s cereal trade.
Pravednyk added that this has caused an increase in the world prices of food with inflation.
“The war had reduced access to food in the countries that import food from us in particular wheat and sunflower oil,” he pointed out.
