Azimio coalition has thrown its weight behind Patrick Karani of Jubilee Party for Utalawa Ward seat, Nairobi City County in the December 8th by-election.
On Sunday, Azimio leader Raila Odinga traversed the Ward urging the residents to turn up in large numbers and vote for the Jubilee Party candidate on Thursday as a show of solidarity for the coalition.
Earlier on Thursday, Speaker of Nairobi County Assembly Ken Ng’ondi and Azimio leadership in the House are said to have held a closed door meeting with candidates from Azimio affiliate parties to seek consensus ahead of the by-election.
“We had a meeting with Azimio candidates from Wiper and Jubilee in the upcoming by-election for Utawala Ward seat”, Majority Chief Whip Moses Ogeto told The Times in an exclusive interview.
The meeting was convened with a view of convincing one candidate to step down and support one their own from the coalition.
Those who attended the meeting included the Leader of Majority Jateso Imwatok (Makongeni Ward), Deputy Majority Chief Whip Stazo Omung’ala (Upper Savannah Ward), and Maurice Ochieng’ (Mountain View Ward).
“We sat with the candidates for three hours to convince them, with a view of getting one among them who is the most popular candidate”, said the Kilimani Ward MCA.
“As Azimio coalition, we are going to support the Jubilee Party candidate in the by-election for Utawala Ward seat”, Ogeto told The Times.
