Over the last nine years, the Mombasa Business Excellence initiative developed by the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) has enabled 170 organisations to strengthen their brands and improve their customer relations.

KNCCI Mombasa chapter chairman Mohamed Ramadhan Mustafa said the annual event recognizes and celebrates business excellence and innovation in the public and the private sector.

He said the internationally benchmarked framework provides a roadmap for excellence by helping companies in identifying areas for improvement in leadership, strategy, knowledge, customer-centricity, people development and process capabilities.

“The county Business Awards initiative is also about building local and international trust and confidence in organisations,” he said.

He was speaking during the 2022 Mombasa awards in his welcome remarks at Jumeriah apartments in Nyali constituency, Mombasa county.

The KNCCI Mombasa chapter chairman defended the annual event which was launched in 2013 with the vision of enhancing organisations’ competitiveness and to prepare for their  future.

Mustafa said with the vision is even more relevant today with the looming dark clouds as there is urgent need to ready themselves for the challenges ahead.

He pointed out innovation is the currency of progress with the KNCCI requiring more creative solutions.

“We need to be enablers of disruptive thinking, risk taking and innovation if we want to keep pace with the evolving global demands and trends,” he added.

The KNCCI Mombasa chapter chairman called for urgent need to strengthen the  existing fundamentals that have allowed them to punch above  their weight as  the hosts.

Mustafa said this includes a stable political environment with a competent leadership and cohesive society that balances long-term planning with short-term needs, and executes its plans efficiently and effectively.

He  further said this also included a pro-business environment with strong rule of law, feedback channels to ensure that our policies facilitate business operations and regulatory sandboxes to allow business innovation.
