Nairobi MCAs Clash Over Credibility of ICT Chief Officer Nominee

Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly  Robert Alai has downplayed the drama that rocked a committee he was chairing forcing UDA allied MCA to walk out in protest.

Chaos had erupted at City Hall as Vetting of nominee Chief Officer for ICT and Energy Lucky Ogutu was interupted by a section of Nairobi County Assembly Select Committee members citing irregularities.

Ogutu is among the 33 Chief Officers nominated by Governor Sakaja, who were vetted by various sectoral committee’s.

The team led by Minority Leader Anthony Kiragu  blamed the committe of favoritism after Ogutu allegedly submitted her documents past the deadline date.

UDA-allied MCAs who walked out of committee sitting.

The Minority Leader cited failure to submit the necessary credentials by the nominee as  the main reason they could not participate in the vetting exercise.

While terming the committee sitting an illegality  the Minority Leader said the couldn’t participate in the session.

“As Kenya Kwanza we cannot not participate in an illegality, how can we gauge a nominee’s suitability without going through a credentials?” questioned Kiragu.

However in a rejoinder, the committee’s Vice Chairperson Robert Alai dismissed the claims saying the move by the Kenya Kwanza MCAs was ill-motivated to sabotage the exercise.

According to Alai the MCAs should have raised the concerns at the committee for them to be captured in the hansard.

“I don’t think they walked out because of an illegality, I think they had clear instructions to ensure that the nominee is not vetted,” Alai stated.
