Nairobi City County Assembly will this afternoon hold a special sitting to discuss supplementary budget estimates for the financial year 2022/2023.

The Estimates were tabled at a special sitting of the House on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 by the Leader of Minority, Waithaka Ward MCA Anthony Kiragu.

The sitting was chaired by Speaker Ken Ng’ondi who committed the supplementary financial estimates to the Budget committee for consideration.

However, it was imperative that the House adjourns for the Budget committee to retreat and make its findings on the financial estimates before reporting to the Assembly.

The supplementary financial estimates have been drawn to align the budget estimates with the Additional Conditional Grants Act 2022 that was recently enacted into law.

They will also be applied to effect key changes in the Budget as recommended by the Controller of Budget and to address other incidentals.

In a gazette notice dated January 18, 2023 and signed by the Speaker, the Assembly is expected to consider  and pass its verdict both on the Committee report and the Nairobi City County Supplementary Appropriations Bill, 2023.

Last month, the County Assembly approved Governor Johnson Sakaja’s nominees to the positions of County Executive Committee Members and the Chief Officers.

It is expected that the House will approve the supplementary budget estimates and the Supplementary Appropriation Bill, to jump start operations in the county government, which have stagnated since August last year due to financial constraints.

Yesterday, sources told The Times the Budget committee was on a retreat in Naivasha to consider the Supplementary Budget Estimates and Supplementary Appropriations Bill, 2023 to report to the House today.
