Muhuri Fault State on Creation of CAS Positions
The creation of the new Chief Administrative posts by the government which will cost taxpayers Sh2 billion has continued to elicit reactions.
A section of civil society organizations drawn from the coast region have waded into the debate.
Led by Muslims For Human Rights (Muhuri) Executive Director Omar Elmawi they said the move by the Kenya Kwanza administration to support the creation of the posts is against their 2022 campaign pledges.
Elmawi lashed out at President William Ruto’s administration for getting its priorities wrong.
“The government’s priority in line with the 2022 election campaign pledges is to create employment opportunities for youths,” he pointed out.
Elmawi said apart from creating employment for millions of youths the administration was also expected to lower the cost of living for the ordinary citizens.
He was addressing a media briefing with other civil society organizations drawn from the coast region on the country’s economic situation held at Muhuri offices outside the Mombasa law courts in Mombasa county.
The Muhuri Executive Director lashed out at the government for being blind to their campaign pledges during last year’s general election.
Elmawi who was flanked by other civil society organizations’ representatives Inform Action Coast Director Ms Uba Suleiman and Muhuri’s Rapid Response officer Francis Auma said the government was creating unnecessary positions of Chief Administrative Secretaries which will cost taxpayers Sh 17 million as monthly salaries translating to more than Sh 1 billion a year.
He said instead of the government inventing ways of curbing the ballooning public expenditure it has created the office of CASs.
“The CAS offices will be allocated billions of shillings that should have been directed to other useful needs for the members of public,” he pointed out.
