Third Edition of The Elite Youth League Set for Sunday
The highly-anticipated Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Elite Youth League will kick off this Sunday at Moi Stadium, Kasarani.
Bringing the development to light on Friday, FKF NEC member and Chairman of FKF Youth Committee, Chris Amimo, said that the competition has been informed by the need to identify talent in the country.
“The league is part of FKF’s strategy to revive grassroots football countrywide so as to identify talents from an early stage,” Amimo said.
“It’s been realised that a lot of young players do not have access to participation in organisers leagues until they are adults. It will also form the basis for selection of the Kenya u15 and u17 teams. This leagues will be rolled out throughout the country
This is actually the third edition. The first edition was held in 2017 that saw Kenya form the first u15 national team.
“Many of those players are now playing on the Kenyan Premier League and NSL and some have got contracts to play abroad.
“Unfortunately this program was adversely affected first by Covid and secondly by the FIFA ban. We intend to rebuild it from where we left,” Amimo said.
