Mombasa Residents Treated to Boxing Exhibition
The residents of Maganda in Mombasa were treated to a rare boxing exhibition held at Mombasa Women Rehabilitation Center in Jomvu constituency under tight security.
The boxing exhibition brought together two boxers who came face to face after a long time.
Rehabilitated Congestina Achieng was in action with her former bitter rival Fatuma Zakira during an exhibition which was graced by former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko whose agenda is to promote social support in the fight against drugs through community intervention.
The exhibition was officiated by Helen Wanjiku with other four curtain raisers held before the main event.
Speaking at the end of the three round boxing exhibition between the two former boxers the governor acknowledged that when the recovered Congestina was brought to the centre a year ago she was different from where she is now.
He disclosed she has fully recovered and she can leave the centre to join the world in meaningful engagements.
“We are organizing for her to take up boxing training as a business rather than being idle,” he pointed out.
The former governor urged youths to desist from drugs and substance abuse warning it will ruin their lives.
The son of Congestina Charlton Otieno said he was happy and proud that his mother has come along way and she was fully recovering.
On her part, Congestina echoed Sonko’s sentiments and urged the youths to shy away from drugs and substance abuse saying the country depends on them.
The Rehabilitation Center’s Chief Executive Officer [CEO] Amina Abdillahi assured sports fraternity that the former boxing champ has fully recovered and was ready to leave to join the world in national building.
