3 Men Nabbed In Possession Of Elephant Tusks In Mt Elgon

Three suspected men were nabbed in possession of two elephant tusks in Kapsokwony, Mt. Elgon Sub County, on Tuesday evening.
The men who were ferrying two elephant tusks to a supposedly potential buyer were set up by intelligence officers from Kenya Wildlife Service who posed as buyers for the previous commodity.
According to the undercover intel officers, they had been in communication with the culprits for quite some time.
“From our experience, one of the suspects portrays the traits of an experienced poacher, while the other is a dealer whose task is to find customers after the tusks have been captured,” noted one of the officers.
Though the alleged offenders claimed to have gotten the tusks from a dead elephant carcass, the matter has been presented before Bungoma law court on Wednesday for further action.
The suspects remain in custody as the court awaits a pre-bail report to decide on the issuance of bonds or none therein.
