Mark Makokha wins 250k ‘Abiria Ni Mayai’ Motorbike competition

Mark Makokha is the winner of the Abiria ni Mayai motorbike competition that attracted over 250 motorbikes.
Makokha further pocketed a whooping Ksh 250,000 amid thunderous cheers from his motoride opponents.
James Kariuki finished second He went home with Ksh 70 000 while Samuel Wambugu came third with a consolation money of sh 40,000.
10 other riders were each given Safaricom Airtime worth Ksh 1000.
The riders who went for three different rounds were forced to carry two eggs in a bucket that was tied in the back seat.
Whoever arrived with all the four eggs intact was declared the winner.
The event that was graced by Deputy speaker of the National Assembly Madam Boss Sholei was staged at the Kasarani special Super stage.
The Motorbike Derby that will be held in various counties starting from next month was flagged off by Citizen TV comedian Inspekta Mwala and Radio Jambo Reggae. Presenter Mbusi and lion.
The event was organized to enhance the boda boda rider and passenger safety in the event organized by the National Transport & safety Authority (NTSA), Lipalikeds and KCB among other sponsors.
The event next moves to the home of bodabodas’ the western circuit in Kakamega.
The competition was used as a campaign to provide one million motorcycle helmets in six months across the country. The inaugural event was held at the Kasarani Super Special stage in Nairobi.
The event was organized to enhance the boda boda rider and passenger safety in the event organized by the National Transport and Safety Authority NTSA, Lipalikes, KCB amongst other sponsors.
Lipalikes CEO Nick Mararo said he was impressed by the manner the riders displayed discipline, skills on safety, patience and personal presentation.
“The whole event is not only about carrying eggs it’s about the safety of the passenger, and if he or she is safe the rider is home safe, and as you know when an accident occurs the bodabodas’ are usually the first on scene and today they have learned on what to do just in case,” Mararo said.
“Sixty-five percent of passengers don’t wear helmets and some instances the rider, you’ll hear some women say the helmet is dirty, that is why we were also emphasizing on cleanliness,” he added.
Nairobi bodaboda operators chairman Newton Kigonde appreciated the effort made by ‘Abiria Ni mayai derby’.
“The initiative is the best so far and the gains are immense, I believe after this our passengers will be happy,” Kigonde said.
Over 250 riders graced the event beyond expectations with 50 from Uasin Gichu county stealing the show.
The event next moves to the home of bodabodas’ the western circuit.
