State Alarmed by Rising Number of Quacks Operating Pharmacies, Chemists

The government is ready to work with the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya (PSK) to crackdown on quacks operating pharmacies and chemists countrywide.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said the government is concerned with the number of quacks operating pharmacies and chemists countrywide without being licensed.
He wondered how and why such pharmacies and chemists can operate without professionals in the field.
“The government is ready and willing to work closely with the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya (PSK) to crackdown on quacks operating pharmacies and chemists in the country,” he pointed out.
Gachagua said the government is ready  to provide them with security and intelligence to carry out their operations.
He was speaking during a Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya Conference held at Sarova Whitesands Beach hotel in Nyali constituency, Mombasa county.
The DP has asked the society to work with the government to succeed in cracking down on unlicensed pharmacists and chemists countrywide.
Gachagua ordered the arrest of unlicensed operators of pharmacies and chemists and demanded their prosecution.
He also recommended the destruction of medicine in the stores inside the unlicensed pharmacies and chemists facilities.
“The Regional Commissioner Coast Rhoda Onyancha has been applauded in the war against drugs and I urge her to do more to deal with this vice,” he said.
