CIPK urges youths to engage government in dialogue

Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) Chairman Abdalla Ateka addressing journalists while reacting to this week's peaceful protests in honor of fallen youths at their offices in Mombasa county.

Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) Chairman Abdalla Ateka has urged the youths to stop their protests and instead engage the government in dialogue.

 

He said it’s regrettable that what had been perceived to be peaceful protests have now been hijacked by hooligans.

 

“The move has resulted in violence and destruction of property with scores of people injured,” he said.

 

Abdalla added that for the past two days the peaceful protests have turned into skirmishes which has caused alarm in the country.

 

He was addressing journalists while reacting to this week’s peaceful protests in honor of fallen youths at their offices in Mombasa county.

 

The CIPK Chairman told the media that the protests have been hijacked by goons to tarnish the image of the youths.

 

Abdalla told the media as things stand today with the ongoing protests things will get out of hand.

 

He added the protests will ruin the country and end up in skirmishes.

 

“Let’s spare this Friday as a special prayer day and the imams should abide with my calls,” he said.

 

The CIPK Chairman has told them to dedicate the Friday prayers for the country.

 

Abdalla said they wish to convey their message of condolence to those who lost their lives during the skirmishes.

 

He added the protests were peaceful despite being hijacked by goons who are out to cause mayhem in the country.

 

“The protestors have refuted claims they have engaged in the skirmishes,” he pointed out.
